GREEN OFFICE INITIATIVE
We acknowledge the deep connection between human health and the environment, and we are committed to
reducing our impact on climate change and promoting positive relationships with nature.
Climate change poses many health risks to individuals and communities (e.g., air pollution, asthma, insect borne illnesses, increased natural disasters, etc.). The process of health care causes ~6-10% of this environmental harm and ensuing illness (Arya et al., 2018).
The Crown Point Family Health Centre (CPFHC) is committed to improving the health of our patients and our community by reducing our office’s impact on the environment through a variety of projects (including reductions in waste, energy usage, and toxins).
The Green Office Initiative also aims to increase our patient’s exposure to nature. We are planting a pollinator garden outside of the clinic to support native plant and animal life and to further integrate nature into our office. Exposure to nature can have an incredibly positive impact on health, such as:
● stress reduction
● increased attention
● social cohesion
● improved mental health and well-being (Gillis & Gatersleben, 2015).
When you’re in the office next, keep an eye out for the CP Humble Bee to see the different green initiatives that we are working on!
